Michael Kac and Linda Cohen first met in 1964, and have been friends ever since. In 1969 they joined forces briefly as a performing duo specializing in an eclectic blend of musical styles featuring the unusual instrumental combination of harpsichord and guitar. Although they were not able to continue their association at that time, they stayed in touch over the years and recently decided to resurrect their performing partnership. "Naked Under the Moon", produced by Craig Anderton, is their first recording project together.

Michael Kac grew up in Ithaca, New York. Although his earliest musical training was in classical piano, he got his first professional performing experience as a folksinger-guitarist on the east coast coffeehouse circuit. (It was during this time that his lifelong friendship with Linda Cohen began.)

He then played with a succession of rock groups, most notably the Philadelphia-based Mandrake Memorial -- the beginning of his association with Craig Anderton. He can be heard as keyboard player on the Mandrake's first two albums for Poppy Records (recently reissued in CD on the Collectables label).

Shortly after leaving the Mandrake Memorial he moved to California to finish graduate school and then joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota, where he has been ever since.

Although retired from active performing, he kept up a serious involvement in music, including formal harpsichord studies with Bess Karp at UCLA and Jane Burris at Minnesota. He also continued to compose and to give occasional recitals; but most importantly, he kept in touch with Linda. When she suggested, not long ago, that he come out of retirement to join her in a new musical venture, he agreed immediately and "Naked Under the Moon" is the first result.

In addition to his musical and academic activities, he is the proud father of sixteen year old Stefan Kac (who plays a mean tuba!). He is also at work on a novel, a mystery set in the world of music and musicians.

A Phildelphia native, Linda Cohen started out as an orchestral percussionist, but began studying classical guitar with Peter Colonna of the Settlement School of Music while in high school. After a year at Temple University, she decided to become a full time professional musician and began forging her own highly personal instrumental style, with its distinctive combination of classical and popular elements.

She soon became a familiar presence on the alternative music scene, leading to her being signed by Poppy Records, and later, its successor Tomato. Her three albums from that time -- "Leda", "Lake of Light" and "Angel Alley" (all produced by Craig Anderton) -- are acknowleged classics.

In addition to her accomplishments as a performer, she has long been a respected teacher of guitar whose services are in great demand. What her students already knew became public knowledge when she was accorded Phildelphia Magazine's ultimate accolade by being singled out in an annual "Best Of" issue as the city's top guitar teacher.

She has also given highly successful workshops for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences on the use of classical guitar technique in non-classical repertoire.
